DJ Balagan (Sam Hopkins) is a beatdigger with worldwide range. Balagan's unique foreign finds and commentary have landed his writing in acclaimed music magazine Wax Poetics and other publications, and his Funny Accent mix made many 2007 top ten lists. Chalutzei Ketzev ("Beat Pioneers") is packed with sabra grooves... You've got funky flute over a soldier's story, the guttural sounds of Yemenite Hebrew to an off-kilter disco beat, and the meanest darbouka break you've ever heard. Even Ben-Gurion would bump to this.

(brief bio - He is considered a living legend when it comes to authentic Yemenite Jewish music. Everybody that has tried to enter his territory could not last for more than a year. In the genre of Mizrahi music, the hierarchy changes daily but when it comes to Yemenite music, Zion Golan has remained on top throughout his career. Most of his songs are sung in Yemeni Arabic and is understood by all Yemenis. Many songs are from Yemen and are also sung by contempoary Yemeni singers. The Hebrew songs are sung in the ancient Yemeni dialect of Hebrew.)
