Found this at Generation Bass. “I was fortunate to see DIWON about a year ago in London at Cargo, albeit very brieflyand quite accidentally, when he was performing with a friend of mine SMADAR LEVI (who will be on a post very soon as part of my SPECIAL LADIES series).
At the time I did not really know much about him save for what I’d heard from my jewish mates in London who regarded him as LEGEND. My dear mate Smadar kept on mentioning him to me as though I ought to be awestruck and impressed that he was performing with her but man I just didn’t know but after the gig, I DID KNOW!
Man, there’s a lot of info on Diwon on his MY SPACE page that you can check out for yourself. I’d just like to summarise that essentially he is now based in New York and is a very highly regarded Artist, not just within the global jewish community, but also outside of it and he is on the verge of BREAKING IT INTO THE BIG TIME!
He has performed with Lou Reed, Anthony Coleman, Matisyahu, DJ Spooky, and Idan Raichel, along with countless others. URB MAGAZINE listed Diwon amongst their NEXT 1000, London Radio’s 104.4 FM called him, “one of New York’s hottest Jewish musicians;” the Jerusalem Post dubbed him, “Jewish music’s multimedia mogul;” Forward listed him as one of the Top 50 “most influential Jews of 2007;” and The Village Voice stated that his work “as producer and DJ is among the most adventurous and banging on the new Jewish music scene.”

He is the founder and director of Shemspeed (the largest & most diverse Semetic music site), Modular Moods (an independent record label), Hip Hop Sulha, and The Sephardic Music Festival.
So there you go, nuff said I reckon on that front 
So where is he musically, well he’s a musical mystic, a multi-genre producer who travels the globe performing, producing and researching sounds. His styles range from Yemenite music blended with electro hip hop beats to cinematic psychadelia. He is very strongly influenced by his migrational family background as his family migrated from Yemen to Ethiopia before finally settling in Israel.
We were lucky enough to catch up with Diwon and pin him down for a bit of a chin-wag despite his very hectic schedule and so thanks Diwon man for giving us this time.
GENERATION BASS HAS A CHIN-WAG WITH DIWON:
GB: How are you and what are you up to right at this moment?
DIWON: Good. In the dreams in static studio workin on the debut album for that project. It’s me and Dugans (his guitarist collaborator).
GB: How do you describe your sound?
DIWON: Every project I do has a very different sound. The mixtapes are all over the place from Yiddish remixes to Sephardic clubbed out tracks to B-more and Bhangra. The albums I produce range from Cinematic rock/hip hop type sound to Yemenite & Moroccan chilled out downtempo stuff to just hip hop in all its forms. I think I would say an element of hip hop is in everything I do and I love bringing in that style into all the diff types of world music that I make.
GB:What are you working on at the moment and when will it be released?
DIWON: I’m trying to finish up the Diwon Riddim record which is this sort of Moroccan Yemenite melody sound but set to a dubbed out hip hop track. I have vocalists from around the world singing and making songs out of the riddim. So far I have the riddim in French, Hebrew, Yiddish, English, German, and Russian. I’ll probably finish all the songs in the next few months. At the same time I’m workin on the Y-Love & DeScribe albums as well as my solo album and the Dreams in Static albums with Dugans which will be one instrumental album and then another album with different artists singing on each track. Gonna be hottness
GB: How is the scene in New York compared to that in Tel Aviv?
DIWON:I have only DJed a few times in Tel Aviv and it was really awesome. I think things still feel fresh out there. In NY there are tons of great shows and loft parties and such, but a lot of the club parties get boring because people are jaded and the scene is so over saturated that nothing feels new and original…
GB: Which new names do we need to look out for coming from both scenes?
DIWON: If you mean Jewishly, def DeScribe, Kosha Dillz, Eprhyme, DJ Balagan, and Y-Love. They are def makin some amazing music.
GB: Who are your favourite Dj’s/Producers or the ones that influenced you most in these scenes?
DIWON: Diplo, Kanye, Prefuse, Mark Ronson, Cheb i Sabbah…
