Winter Jazz Fest

We first heard about this years Winter Jazz Fest when facebooked by our good friend and amazing musicians Ayelet Rose Gottlieb. Then we remembered that Brice Rosenbloom, our long time collaborator and the man behind Boom Boom Presents, has been running this thing for some time. The fest takes place this Saturday night January 10th at clubs around the NYC area and as an added bonus Ali Shaheed Muhammad (of Tribe Called Quest) will be spinning a special jazz inflected set before and after ‘The Watts Project’ set on Saturday night at Le Poisson Rouge. We caught up with Brice and asked him a few questions about this Winter Jazz thing.

How many years has it been going on?
– This will be the 5th year.

Whats the idea of it?
– The concept is to present over 20 established and new jazz projects to a festival audience on three stages in one night. The festival is always scheduled around the Arts Presenters (APAP) conference and offers these jazz groups the opportunity to perform in front of presenters, festival bookers, clubowners, music press and other music industry professionals.

How far do some of the bands travel to be a part of it?
– This year we’re presenting groups mostly from the US, but also from Chile, Paris, Cuba, and Israel.

Anything else you want us to know?
– More info is on the website www.winterjazzfest.com, check it out.
