Shemspeed Purim in your City

Jews don’t forget anything. I remember hearing a story of how Napoleon was walking down the street and saw some Jews crying. He asked what are they all crying about? The person replied, Their temple was destroyed over 2000 years ago and today marks the anniversary so they cry, they fast and they mourn. Napoleon replied, “A nation that cries and fasts for over 2,000 years for their land and Temple will surely be rewarded with their Temple.”

Well, not all Jewish holidays are commemorating sad events, Purim, celebrated on the 14th of Adar, is the wildest, most action-packed day of the Jewish year. Some 2400 years ago, Haman, the Persian prime-minister, ordered genocide of the Jews. His plan was thwarted by Esther and Mordechai—and so we all get down in costume and celebrate, drinking till we can’t remember the difference between Haman and Mordechai and Snooki and Kim Kardashian, well, actually those two actually aren’t that different if you really think about it, so you might not have to drink that much.
