SMF NIGHT TWO!

Aight, this evening was amazingly classy and awesome! We walk into the Center of Jewish History for the second night of the SMF to a program called, “GHETTO BEATS: JEWISH MUSICAL NIGHTLIFE, FROM ITALY TO NEW YORK”. That already has to be amazing. The program is split into two parts, 1.
features the Male Choir of Congregation Shearith Israel, directed by Leon Hyman. They prepared a repertoire of late-Renaissance and Baroque art music from Italy (such as the Hebrew Cantata “Ebraica in Dialogo,” by 17th century Venetian composer, Carlo Grossi) with the contemporary resurgence of Sephardic Jewish music in New York City neighborhoods. It was like 8 men singing their junx off with a woman on piano. It was less concert than old school church, but still interesting if not just for the oddness of it all. When they finished rockin hella old school. We left the theater walking into the main hall which was set up with tables and an open bar accompanied by a full spread of aperitifs. dj handler was on the decks spinning contemporary beats based on the Sephardic musical heritage. I caught some remixed Zion Golan tracks and then some arabic remixes. The night was classy indeed. The only thing I was missing was my tux!
